In the summer 2012, Andrew Lloyd Webber set out to find a man who could play Jesus in a new arena production of his show “Jesus Christ Superstar” among the eleven finalists he had chosen. There to help him were British television viewers who could have their say by voting for their favourite(s) during the 9 liveshows that were broadcast on ITV in July.
In the end, after 10 exhausting and unbelievably exciting days and nights, the public decided that Ben Forster was to play the lead role: He starred as Jesus in two UK and one Australia tour alongside Melanie C, Tim Minchin and many other famous performers. But he wasn’t the only Superstar to gain something from this show: Three of his fellow contestants were part of the ensemble as Simon/understudy of Jesus (Rory Taylor), understudy of Judas (Tim Prottey-Jones) and understudy of Jesus (Jeff Anderson). And for the remaining seven men the show also proved important in helping their careers.
